Why do actresses in the older movies have such beautiful voices?

Question by Ms. Kennedy: Why do actresses in the older movies have such beautiful voices?
In the movies in the late eighties movies on, the actresses have regular voices. But before then, their voices seem to flow, and have an almost British accent. Have our accents changed over time? Or is that just the way people used to act?

Thanks!

If I told you, I’d make a lot of women angry.

The beautiful voices part is subjective.

Our accents have indeed change over time though.

back in the day actors were not only required to act but also dance and sing. they had voice coaches and everything from ballet lessons to diction classes.

the studios owned them thru their contracts and they pretty much had to do whatever was asked of them.

Yes – Those were the days when you could virtually understand every
word spoken in movies. Seems the young actors now all talk with
their mouths closed and music or traffic covers up the dialogue.

I suppose they think this is realism, but I would much rather be able
to understand what is being said,

    Whatever happened to enunciation?
